Akitio beach

A long weekend and it’s time to brush the cobwebs off the caravan and head to a part of the country I haven’t been to before.  Akitio is a beach on the eastern side of the North Island, about 40km from Dannevirke.  Lovely little fishing camp with a few baches and lots of crusty fishermen hauling in crayfish pots and surf casting.  The surrounding countryside was lush and dotted with sheep and cattle on the steep hillsides.  These shots are a bit random but are some of the scenes from around the area, including the lovely Waihi Falls, about 20km up the line.
